A few months ago, when making resolutions for the new year, I resolved to make taking care of my skin more of a priority. It’s not that I don’t take good care of my skin. I am, after all, the owner of a small business that formulates and sells a line of pretty amazing skin care products. And as such, I have access to an arsenal of top quality ingredients, cleansers, scrubs, lotions and potions. Having so much at my fingertips, however, it can be easy to take it for granted and get a little lazy. So, I decided to make this the year I follow all of the skincare rules I know to be true - one of which is to give my skin regular monthly facials. This has historically been the most difficult rule for me to keep up with. It only takes about an hour of my time once a month, but for some reason, I can be so lazy about actually doing it. And I know how transformative a monthly facial regimen can be. So this year, I’ve made a commitment to monthly facials - and I can honestly see the difference in both my skin and my overall wellness. Because, make no mistake, the benefits of regular pampering go way beyond what we can see at first glance.

I love going to the salon for a professional facial. And there is definitely a place for that in my life, but I have neither the time nor the money for a salon facial every month. And what I’ve discovered over the years is that an at home facial, done regularly, is a remarkably effective way to ensure consistently clear, clean, glowing skin. In fact, when I do find myself at the salon for a professional facial, the esthetician nearly always comments on the clarity of my skin. And more often than not, my skin requires virtually no extractions of clogged pores.

A facial is essentially a multi-step skin treatment that is one of the best ways to take care of your skin.  Regular facials deeply cleanse, exfoliate, detoxify, hydrate and balance overall skin tone, as well as fighting acne and wrinkles. They are also linked to lower stress levels  - and we can definitely appreciate the value of that.

Your skin is as important as any of your other organs, so you need to make sure you take care of it. However, you don’t have to empty your bank account on expensive products or treatments to do so. I regularly use only Herbalicious Skincare products in my facial regimen. Our Herbal Facial Steam is a beautiful aromatic blend of gently purifying, soothing and skin nourishing flowers. I love breathing in the floral bouquet of the steam -with some quiet music and my eyes closed, I feel as if I'm in a spa. The Purifying Clay Mask that follows is an ultra gentle, deeply cleansing blend of Rhassoul clay and organic botanicals. Rhassoul clay gently absorbs excess dirt and oil and improves skin clarity and elasticity while the peppermint, lavender, rose, and chamomile soothe inflammation and deeply nourish. My skin is so soft and positively glows after a facial and I'm always left feeling clean, beautiful, confident and blissful.

The quote that began this post may seem silly, but it is most certainly true. Take the time to care for your skin today and you’ll be so glad you did tomorrow.

To set the stage for a truly relaxing and restoring facial experience, begin by clearing your space of any distractions.

~ Shut off your phone.

~ Place the TO DO list out of sight.

~ Put on some relaxing music.

~ Maybe light a candle or put some lavender essential oil in the diffuser.

Cleanse and Exfoliate

Begin any facial by gently washing your face.

*We recommend double-cleansing for a deep exfoliating cleanse -

First Cleanse - depending on your preference, use Rosewater Cleanser, or for an even deeper clean, apply Wellness Salve to dry skin, place a hot damp cloth over your face for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, and wipe clean, rinsing the cloth during the process.

Second Cleanse - apply Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser in circles to the entire face (avoiding the eye area) to exfoliate and prepare skin for the steam. Rinse with warm water.

Steam

~ Place 2-4 tablespoons herbs in a large bowl and cover with just boiled water.

~ Drape a towel over your head to create a tent and lean over the bowl.

~ Breathe deeply and relax for 10-15 minutes.

~ To finish the steam, splash your face with cool water and pat dry.

Mask

~ Combine 2 teaspoons mask with water or rosewater cleanser to form a loose but not runny paste.

~ Using cosmetic brush, apply to entire face, avoiding eyes and mucus membranes.

Rest

~ Sit, close your eyes, and relax for the next 10 minutes or so, allowing the mask time to penetrate your skin.

Rinse

~ Using a washcloth and warm water, wash off the mask and follow with a splash of cool water.

Treat and Nourish

~ Swipe your face with Balancing Toner to restore the pH level of the skin and remove any last traces of mask.

~ Massage Nourishing Face Oil (or nutrient rich oil of your choice) into your entire face, drenching the skin in nourishing and restoring antioxidants and vitamins. *Massaging your face with Nourishing Face Oil will immediately increase the blood circulation and oxygen flow, which promotes collagen production and enhances the elasticity of your skin.

Rest

~ Sit, close your eyes, and relax for the next 5 minutes or so as the oil penetrates completely.

You look fabulous.

Making the time once each month to give yourself a facial is an investment not only in your skin, but also your well being. When you make yourself a priority, it benefits not only you, but everyone around you. The better you care for yourself, the better you’re able to care for your loved ones. And when you feel confident in the way you look, it shows in everything you do. Take advantage of our Facial Set Special this month and treat yourself (or Mom) to a glowing complexion.
